Murphy signs law to protect abortion rights in NJ

“Individuals have the right to make their own decisions concerning reproduction — including the right to contraception, the right to terminate a pregnancy, and the right to carry a pregnancy to term — without government interference or fear of prosecution.” That’s the heart of a new statute Gov. Phil Murphy signed into law Thursday, codifying legal abortion as a protected constitutional right in New Jersey.


It’s a critical protection, Murphy said, with the U.S. Supreme Court seemingly poised to restrict abortion rights.
