Women’s marches were held on Saturday in towns across New Jersey and the country, decrying the restrictive new abortion law in Texas and calling for more protections for abortion access.
In New Jersey, the issue has become a political lightning rod in the gubernatorial race, with Gov. Phil Murphy speaking in favor of a Reproductive Freedom Act for roughly a year now. The bill has yet to get even a committee hearing, meaning it’s a long way from a legislative vote or from landing on the governor’s desk.
